Rosemary





A woody, perennial herb with fragrant, evergreen, needle-like leaves and white, pink, purple, or blue flowers, native to the Mediterranean region. Rosemary is one of my favourites so much so, it grows throughout the garden.


Infused into oil or salt, sugar or homemade lemonade or as an addition to traditional savoury dishes, Rosemary's agile versatility makes it a beautiful addition to any home cooking.


Rosemary has a long history of culinary and aromatic uses, in addition to applications in traditional herbal and Ayurvedic medicine. It has been used for centuries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas to treat a host of illnesses. Rosemary is loaded with anti-oxidants and vitamins, and it contains natural compounds that are anti-inflammatory and anti-septic.


Some of the health benefit claims that bring is so much attention are:

I wanted to share with you some of the ways I most enjoy this beautiful aromatic herb.


Rosemary Tea


As a tonic that is said to boost your immune system, Rosemary tea delivers an invigorating and incredible flavour especially when you add a little dribble of pure organic honey.

The best news is brewing your tea is as simple


Instructions:


1. Place either fresh or dried Rosemary leaves into a tea strainer place in your tea cup

2. Boil water then allow it to sit and cool for 2 mins

3. Pour water into your tea cup

4. Allow the tea to steep for 3 - 5 mins

5. Remove the strainer and add in a dribble of honey if desired.

6. Find a comfortable place to sit, be present and enjoy your tea.

Now that we have started to investigate the Alchemy side of Rosemary, could there be a better way to keep diving into what it has to offer than talking about it in the form of Essential Oil.


Rosemary Essential Oil


Rosemary essential oil is extracted from the leaves and flowering tops of the plant. With a woody, evergreen-like scent, rosemary oil is typically described as invigorating and purifying. Most of rosemary’s beneficial health effects haven been attributed to the high antioxidant activity.


Rosemary was considered sacred by ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and Hebrews, rosemary has a lengthy history of use for centuries. In terms of the some of the more interesting uses of rosemary throughout time, it’s said that it was used as a wedding love charm when it was worn by brides and grooms in the middle ages.


When buying rosemary essential oil, always looking for one that is 100 percent pure, therapeutic grade and organic.

Growing Rosemary at home.

I have not been a successful gardener, however that all changed when I planted my rosemary bush into the ground and diligently neglected it. The site of a growing happy healthy plant had me in love. What more could you ask for than a plant that is not needy!!


Instructions for Growing Rosemary at home.


1. Buy a healthy plant

2. Locate a sunny disposition in your garden

3. Dig a deep whole and plant.

4. Water in your Rosemary plant and then leave for approx 3 days.


Keep an eye on it and ensure that it has a drink roughly once a week after it has settled into it's new garden bed. It may need watering twice a week just to settle the roots initially.


So if it is cooking blending with salts, sugars or infusing in cooking oils, mastering your tea making alchemy, growing in your garden or diffusing throughout your home - Rosemary holds a special place in our natural wellness - I hope you enjoy it in all the ways you feel will work for you and your home.
